Newly released F-series wheel loaders from Volvo underline the company’s continued leadership of the equipment category it helped pioneer more than 50 years ago.
The new L60F, L70F and L90F machines have achieved new standards in cycle times, noise reduction, transmission smoothness, operator comfort, engine emissions and visibility.
They also reinforce Volvo’s reputation for providing versatile, high performance wheel loaders with good reliability, good safety standards and low total cost of ownership.
Volvo incorporated input from owners of previous wheel loader models all around the world in the design of the L60F, L70F and L90F models now available in Australia.
All three models are great all-rounders with new generation Volvo V-ACT D6E Tier 3 Emission turbocharged engines which meet tough emission standards without sacrificing performance or fuel efficiency.
The six litre, six cylinder in-line common rail diesel engine has an air-to-air intercooler and is fitted with dry replaceable cylinder liners and replaceable valve guides and valve seats.
The L60F engine is configured to produce 114kW of power and 648Nm (net). Figures for the L70F and L90F are 125kW, 717Nm and 128kW, 736Nm respectively.
Maximum torque is produced at 1600rpm in all three models, which also share the same economic engine speed working range (1100 to 1600rpm).
Engine control with overspeed protection provides good performance in all operating conditions and a hydrostatically controlled cooling fan saves fuel by working only when needed.
Other features of the new wheel loaders which contribute to good fuel efficiency include load sensing steering and hydraulic systems and a smooth shifting Volvo Automatic Power Shift (APS) which selects the right gear for the job, current operating conditions and the operator’s operating style.
An advanced Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) gear selector promotes operator comfort and productivity with smooth shifts through four forward and four reverse gears.
The Full Automatic Power Shift (FAPS) also enables automatic downshifts to first gear.
All new Volvo F-series wheel loaders incorporate the company’s TP-linkage patented lift arm system to combine ideal parallel and Z-bar linkages.
The combination of the TP-linkage, attachment bracket and a complete range of Volvo engineered attachments gives the L60F, L70F and L90F models good all-round ability and in some cases, enabling the machine to carry out a range of operations which would otherwise require two or more machines to accomplish.
Genuine Volvo attachments available for the new wheel loaders include buckets for all types of jobs and materials, log grapples, material handling arms, and a long line of different fork attachments.
The attachments are precisely matched to the Volvo F-series’ link arm geometry and breakout, rim-pull and lifting force.
Precision-control, optimized visibility of the attachment throughout the entire lifting range, and fingertip operation of the load-sensing hydraulics, gives the operator complete control of the demanding tasks. This means higher safety and faster work cycles in all types of jobs.
The TP-linkage combines high breakout torque and good parallel movement throughout the entire lifting range to give the operator good control of heavy loads all the way up when loading.
The new wheel loaders’ operator comfort and productivity are enhanced by a viscous damped Volvo Care Cab with adjustable steering wheel, seat and lever carrier and an optional adjustable armrest.
Safety is also improved by a laminated front windshield, good all-round visibility and halogen worklights front and rear.
Volvo’s in-house manufacturing of the drivetrain, hydraulics and TP-linkage ensures that all systems work together for optimum loader performance. The differential on the front axle is 100 per cent lockable for ideal traction in difficult conditions.
The new models are marginally larger than the machines they replace, but still remain highly manoeuvrable and easy to operate in tight quarters. Their long wheelbase enables them to ride comfortable over rough ground.
Braking is taken care of by Volvo’s wet, circulation-cooled disc brakes which are well known for their long operating life and smooth and effective braking action.
A Boom Suspension System (BSS) which increases productivity by up to 20% is available as an option.
Volvo’s Contronic system automatically monitors vital F-series machine systems to warn the operator of potential problems. It also troubleshoots and stores operating data for service technicians, and helps the machine owner to adapt the wheel loader to new operating conditions.
