The successful range of large Liebherr wheeled loading shovels, with tipping loads of over 15 tonnes, has been replaced by a newly developed 6th Generation range of machines. The L 564 2plus2, L 574 2plus2 and L 580 2plus2 wheeled loaders have been replaced by the new models L 566 2plus2, L 576 2plus2 and L 580 2plus2. This step coincides with the new Stage III /Tier 3 noise and emissions regulations for construction machinery en-gines.
Compared with the previous models, the new wheeled loaders have more power, even better operator comfort and additional safety features. The heart of the previous range has been re-tained - Liebherr’s travel drive with innovative 2plus2 technol-ogy - which is site-proven to be the most economic and envi-ronmentally friendly wheeled loader concept.
The most obvious visual feature of the “6th Generation” range is the new design line which will, in future, characterise all Liebherr earthmoving equipment.
New engines - improved power
New diesel engines are a core component. With the advent of Stage III/Tier 3 noise and emissions regulations, Liebherr’s own engine factory, Liebherr-Machine Bulle S.A., Switzerland, has developed a new generation of diesel engines, which will be-come standard in different Liebherr construction machines with power requirements of between 130 kW and 560 kW.
A further new feature of the “6th Generation” wheeled loaders is the optimised cooling system, which is designed to efficiently handle the increased cooling requirements of the new diesel en-gines. Although the cooling area has been increased and an ad-ditional fuel-cooling unit has had to be incorporated, the overall system is still extremely compact.
The electronics in the new loaders are based on an overall con-cept developed by the company’s in-house specialist centre, Liebherr-Elektronik GmbH, Lindau. This feature will also be used in many other Liebherr construction machines in the future.
The operational stability of the new wheeled loaders has also been enhanced by optimising the bucket linkage, which also contributes to increased productivity.
Easier to use and maintain
The “6th Generation” wheeled loaders provide 28% more cab space compared with their predecessors. This not only creates more freedom of movement and comfort for the driver, but also provides additional storage facilities and storage space.
The capacity of the standard air-conditioning system has been considerably increased and, with additional performance in re-serve, the cab remains at a pleasant temperature even under extreme weather conditions. The routing of air in the cab has also been optimised, producing comfortable four-zone ventila-tion.
Improved and increased access for maintenance means a more user-friendly machine: the cooling unit and engine compartment covers can now both be opened at the same time, making cleaning of the cooling unit considerably easier.
Even more active and passive safety
The new wheeled loader’s standard equipment has been en-hanced by the addition of several important safety devices. These include a laminated front windscreen, larger external mir-rors, four floodlights at the front and generously sized steps for safe and easy entrance to the cab. Collision protection has also been included in the rear ballast and the rear lights have been incorporated into the counterweight in order to avoid damage in the event of a rear collision. The enlarged fuel tank (400 litres) can now be filled out from the ground.
